About the Lenny Peters Foundation
The Lenny Peters Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to being a helping hand here at home in the U.S., focusing on North Carolina and its Piedmont Triad region, and around the world. Through direct financial assistance to individuals, strategic partnerships with other nonprofits, and international humanitarian work, the Lenny Peters Foundation puts its founding belief into action every day: that those who have been blessed have an obligation to give back.
Our Mission
To be a helping hand here at home and around the world by providing meaningful, dignified support to individuals and organizations in need.
Our Story
The Lenny Peters Foundation was founded by Dr. Lenny Peters, an award-winning physician, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and CEO of several businesses, including Bethany Medical Center, North Carolina’s largest independent medical group. Dr. Peters also oversees Peters Medical Research, where he guides clinical studies to advance medical knowledge and improve patient outcomes. He also heads Peters Development LLC, a High Point-based real estate development and investment firm.
Born in India, Dr. Peters established the Lenny Peters Foundation out of his personal conviction that talent, success, and wealth are not possessions to be kept. They are resources to be stewarded and shared.
“We are all custodians of a certain amount of talent and wealth for a period of time. Our obligation is to share that.” — Dr. Lenny Peters, Founder & CEO, the Lenny Peters Foundation.
What We Do
A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out
The Lenny Peters Foundation believes in sustainable good. Our giving is guided by a simple but powerful distinction: we offer support to those with a hand up, not a hand out. We look for people and organizations that need a meaningful boost. These are organizations or individuals who, with the right support, help them stabilize, grow, and ultimately move forward on their own.
Supporting Individuals in Financial Hardship
We provide one-time financial assistance to individuals facing unexpected hardship. These people may not be connected to a long-term service organization or church community but benefit from immediate, dignified help to get through a crisis. Our recipients come from many backgrounds and circumstances. What they share is the need for someone to care enough to act.
Partnering with Nonprofits in the Triad
The Lenny Peters Foundation actively supports other nonprofit organizations doing meaningful work in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. The Foundation doesn’t simply write checks; it seeks mission alignment, shared values, and opportunities for genuine involvement. The Lenny Peters Foundation’s goal is to be a true partner, not just a donor.
International Humanitarian Work
The Lenny Peters Foundation’s mission extends far beyond North Carolina. Globally, the Foundation independently supports and operates 14 homes where children, the elderly, the sick and dying, and the poor are cared for in India, Africa and Colombia. Some homes, operated by Christian nuns of various orders, serve as prayer centers where the sisters spend their time delivering intercessory prayers on behalf of those who need or request them.
